Powered by 4, Allison 501-D13 Turboprop engines with 13’-6” diameter propellers the short field and high-altitude field performance surpassed many of the jet aircraft of the era. Many Electra’s were reconfigured into freighters, among other roles, and many are still in service today. The Electra was also the basis for the P-3 Orion maritime patrol aircraft.
